Ability of Self Care and Health Promotion Lifestyle for Vulnerable Elderly in Urban Community

Abstract
Objectives : This descriptive study was to analyze ability of self care and health promotion lifestyle for vulnerable elderly in a urban community.

Methods : The study subjects were randomly selected 451 elderly who had chronic diseases(arthritis diabetes, stroke, hypertension, mental disease, cancer, dementia and disability) and basic social welfare service from nation in urban community. The instruments were used the ability of self care(4-Likert scales) and Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile by Walker et al.(4-Likert scales).

Results : The mean score for ability of self care was 2.08 on a 1-4 point scale. Themean score of self care for dementia was 2.46, and it was 2.20 for mental disease, 2.17 for hypertension 2.17 for stroke, 2.16 for diabetes, 2.07 for disability, 1.97 for arthritis and 1.51 for cancer in order, and there is statiscally not significant. The mean score for health promotion lifestyle was 1.84 on a 1-4 point scale. There was significant difference in the mean score for health promotion lifestyle according to diseases(F=2.359, p=0.017). The mean score health promotion lifestyle was 1.97 for diabetes and dementia, and 1.88 for hypertension , 1.83 for stroke, 1.81 for cancer, 1.79 for disability , 1.78 for arthritis and dementia and 1.61 for mental disease, in order.

Conclusion : The result of assess by ability of self care and health promotion lifestyle are needed to supportof community for vulnerable elderly in urban community.
